Wrongful death: Georgia teen killed in crash after abduction

On Behalf of | Dec 5, 2016 | Uncategorized

When the sudden death of a loved one is caused by the actions of another individual, the surviving family may wonder what their options are. In many cases, taking legal action against the individual considered at fault or that person’s estate could be a feasible and warranted action. A wrongful death claim could allow those negatively affected parties to seek desired compensation.

One family in Georgia may be looking into such routes after a recent accident. Reports stated that the boyfriend of a 16-year-old girl came to her family home with a shotgun on Thanksgiving day. The 20-year-old man made the girl leave the home at gun point, and as the man drove away, he apparently lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree near the girl’s home.

The incident resulted in the man and the girl suffering fatal injuries. The vehicle had caught fire after the crash, and the individuals were unable to be rescued in time. Authorities are likely continuing to investigate the incident, and additional information may be provided at a later time.

The family of the young girl are undoubtedly devastated by this sudden event. In the aftermath of the incident, they may find themselves looking for answers as well as justice. Information on wrongful death claims could help them determine whether taking such a legal route could fit their circumstances. A successful claim could allow them to be compensated for funeral expenses, emotional anguish and other damages permitted under Georgia law. Though the driver considered at fault also died in the crash, a claim may still be filed against his estate.
